@stemshawty: the roof of this museum looks like it's floating. here's the trick. sanaa wrapped the whole thing in glass and then held the concrete roof up on steel columns that are 12.5cm wide. that's it. about 5 inches. no thick walls doing the work, no chunky structure to anchor your eye. so your brain reads the roof as hovering because it can't find what's holding it up. it's the 21st century museum in kanazawa, built in 2004. a perfect circle you can walk into from any direction. would you have noticed the columns? #architecture #designinspo #japanarchitecture #architecturetok #architecturetiktok
