@childocdtherapist: If you’re raising a child with OCD, these emotions may feel painfully familiar. Fear of what will happen. Grief for what has changed. Guilt that you didn’t do enough or didn’t act soon enough. Hurt when OCD turns your child’s frustration toward you. None of these feelings mean you’re a bad parent. They mean you love your child. The problem isn’t having these emotions. The problem is when they quietly start driving your parenting. Fear can make us overprotect. Guilt can make us overaccommodate. Grief can keep us focused on who our child used to be instead of helping the child standing in front of us. Hurt can make it hard to separate OCD from the child we love. Learning to notice these emotions without letting them steer your decisions is one of the most important shifts you can make, not just for your child, but for yourself. This is something I practice every single day as a parent raising kids with OCD and anxiety. It’s not something you master once and never think about again. It’s a daily practice. But I’ve seen the difference it has made, not just in me, but in my kids too. That’s why I created my free Anchor Series. I want to help you become a steady, grounded presence for your child, even during the hardest moments. You’ll learn practical tools to parent with intention instead of letting fear, guilt, or urgency take the lead. To register for FREE go to: www.atparentingsurvivalseries.com Series starts in just a few weeks! #ocd #ocdproblems #ocdrecovery #ocdawareness #childocd

Honestly, counseling for OCD is great, but one of the best things parents can do is get counseling on how to parent a child with OCD anxiety. There are things that can do to make OCD worse and better.

OCD runs in my family. my father has it, I have it, and my baby sister has it too. She's going through a flare up right now and it's lasted for months. I've started pushing back on the compulsions and it's one of the hardest things to do. She gets angry with me, which I've accepted, but it's the only way to set us BOTH free. I know this because her demon is mine too.
