I went through a drive thru. My total was $5.05. I gave them a $5 gift card and a dime. They gave me back the gift card with 5¢ on it. 🤦🏻♀️

As a millennial who was a cashier back in the day, the machine gives you change amount and when someone would change it up on me last minute with change it would just throw me off. I could do the math perfectly not under the social pressure of having a line and having to be fast. It’s not like they aren’t smart it’s sometimes just rushing the routine mixed with social anxiety. Haha

Honestly it’s a mind your own business issue for me. The bags are free so I can use what I need. If you charge for them, then I’ll pay for what I need.

Figuring out change without using the cash register/computer seems like a lost art. Forget about counting the change back to you.

Paige!!! I am too menopausal as a Gen X woman to be this second hand annoyed by this! You are doing the lord’s work out there for even trying and engaging on both of these fronts!

I am SO grateful my first restaurant job didn’t have registers that calculated change- we had to do it in our heads. It’s been a very helpful skill right up there with driving a manual transmission . These are Gen X super powers😁

My change was .40. The Gen Z cashier was going to give me 8 nickels. I said don’t you have a quarter. She said you want a quarter. I said yes. So she gave me a quarter and closed her till. I said well you still owe me .15. She looked at me like she didn’t even understand what I was talking about.

I double bag the heavy stuff too. I feel like it helps distribute the weight more evenly and doesn’t ‘seem’ as heavy.

I don’t know that we should be too worried about the change kid. I was thrown by this scenario at my first retail job and it was simply rigid thinking that caused my confusion. The bag kid we can worry about though.

I had a total once of $9.24 and I gave the guy a ten and handed him a quarter and said for the chance (so I could get a dollar and penny back) he proceeded to hand me three quarters, one penny, two dimes and a nickel (change for the quarter🤦♀️)

as a grocery store manager who works with teenagers i feel the to my core. I once had someone ask if the could take a dollar coin. I had to tell them it was legal tender.

I hate to say this as an even oldier ladier GenX but when I started as a cashier at 19 in 1995 many of my peers were also baffled by these exact scenarios.
