I took a class in college called Magic Rituals and Religions and there was a lot of discussion around how the praise pose eventually would cause euphoria after long enough. we had a whole section of the class dedicated to pain seekers - people who sleep on beds of nails and such to achieve said euphoria

went and saw it in theaters on 70 mm and the visuals and music were so haunting. I think my favorite part was when she is singing "all is summer" and it's cycling through the seasons on the ship. chills. 😳 Also as a singer it was amazing to see Amanda Seyfried find her voice in such a strong way + the way they handled using actual period Shaker hymns but with such minimalist settings was *chefs kiss*
