This is a very subjective situation. It depends on both partners' financial situations, schedules and children. 50/50 or not is upto the decision of the parties concerned and not a general discussion to be had. There are too many variables involved to make it generalised.

Idk me and my husband both work and I earn more than him. I am more than happy and I think it's fair for me to contribute that much more even though he very often insists on at least paying 50. Very similar to how we both pull out weight in the house depending on what we each are capable of, which tbf turns into him cleaning up after both of us often tbh😂.

Idk I get the point of the man wanting to take care of the person they love, but as a woman I would also want to take care of the man I love. I don’t see that as a gendered thing. And i can see the argument for him paying for more things bc we live in a patriarchal society where women are at a disadvantage, but what about if the man is not a white man? I’m a white woman and my bf is not white so should I be expected to pay more since we live in a society where not being white also puts people at a disadvantage? Genuinely interested in your thoughts on this!

This argument falls apart because calling both trad wife setups and 50/50 splits “patriarchal” is incoherent. Patriarchy implies male dominance and female subordination, yet a voluntary trad wife choosing homemaking with a willing provider exercises real agency and finds fulfillment in complementary roles, while 50/50 is the literal opposite with equal financial and labor contributions. Your alternative, man fully supports her financially “because he can and wants to” while she keeps her full career, saves every penny of her own money, and maintains total autonomy—is a sweetheart deal for her with zero financial risk or household pressure, all his provision as upside, plus her independent savings and career as a safety net. In reality, if she’s earning then household expenses should be proportional to avoid resentment; true autonomy means she can’t cherry-pick trad benefits (his money) while rejecting responsibilities. I’m not obligated to subsidize her separate empire just because I can. Healthy dynamics reward mutual contribution, not one-sided extraction. What happens in divorce—she keeps her full savings, career, and potential alimony after I funded it all? That’s not empowerment, it’s opportunism. Voluntary specialization works when both choose it freely; this is just self-serving.

I always have my own money but I'd never take the risk of being with a man for free. If that’s your standard that’s totally cool, I actually totally understand wanting to be so loved that your partner would do everything under the sun to take care of all your needs. But you’re talking abt a one sided relationship where a woman is the only one receiving said treatment, what man is willing to give unconditional love in return for your conditional love? Not many at all. My gf and I argue abt who buys each other more stuff, who plans more stuff out, who will end up rich and taking care of the other. Idk why nobody addresses the fact men can have this exact same preference lmao, I could never be in a marriage where my partner, if the roles were reversed, wouldn’t put in as much effort as me.

Society fundamentally only succeeds when people who did not create the problem acknowledge the issue and work to fix it anyway. Unfortunately the people doing the most damage are also usually the people who have the least capacity to take accountability. I think it’s okay to acknowledge that it is more than the bare minimum to compensate for problems in society, while at the same time knowing that more than the bare minimum is required because those problems are real. If you hear this message and think “that’s unfair”, that is a totally fair feeling, but its also just reality. You don’t need to do exactly what this video prescribes, but if you are someone who sees problems in our scoiety, yes you have to put in more than you take out, because the reality is there have always been people doing the opposite. This is not even targeted at just men. It is unfair to women who see these issues too.
