The 7 Types of Lesser Sexual Misconduct [Methuna] that are often committed under the assumption that they are blameless It does not involve physical sexual intercourse, but rather: 1. Finding pleasure and delight in the care, nurturing, and attention of a woman. 2. Laughing, joking, teasing, and chatting together with a woman. 3. Looking into a woman's eyes, locking gazes, and finding sensual pleasure in it. 4. Hearing the voice of a woman from the adjacent room or from behind a wall and developing attachment and longing. 5. Reminiscing and reflecting back on the times shared smiling, laughing, and talking with a woman, and feeling deeply satisfied and pleased by those thoughts. 6. Looking at a married couple, feeling envious/admiring, and wishing to be just like them. 7. Practicing morality and the noble life of celibacy (Brahmacariya) while yearning for and aspiring to the life of devas (celestial beings) or reaching the realm of devas; practicing the noble life merely to attain rebirth in the celestial realm. Practicing morality and the noble life of celibacy (Brahmacariya) while yearning for and aspiring to the life of devas (celestial beings) or reaching the realm of devas; practicing the noble life merely to attain rebirth in the celestial realm. These are what we call the 7 Types of Lesser Sexual Misconduct (Methuna); it is not a "Situationship." However, in another sense, it means that attachment and satisfaction are still occurring within the realm of sensual desires. When observing religious duties and training rules (Dhamma-cariya / Sikkhā), people often commit these actions thinking in their hearts that there is no fault or blame in them. Therefore, so that these kinds of mindsets do not arise, we must all practice, strive, and exert effort. Only then will the Brahmacariya (noble life) we practice be a spotless, untainted Brahmacariya. May everyone keep this in mind and be able to practice and follow the true, discerning, and pure Brahmacariya. Note: Why practicing holy men must not look at women, and why practicing holy women must not look at men—the answer is right here. Please read it carefully. The rule that a man must not look at a woman and a woman must not look at a man is not meant to discriminate between men and women. It is simply because of a certain inherent nature within all human beings. In all humans, if there is something you have never tried, you want to try it, right? If there is something you have never used, you want to use it, right? If there is food you have never eaten, you want to taste it, right? If we summarize all of these, it is called Taṇhā (Craving/Desire). It is precisely because of these things that killings, disputes, rapes, robberies, thefts, and deceptions happen within families, and undesirable wars are breaking out across the world. The main culprit is none other than one's own mind. If one can control and maintain one's own mind well, the world would be extremely peaceful, serene, and full of joy. But right now, because of various reasons, humans harbor suspicion toward one another, hatred is multiplying among humans, and wars are breaking out generation after generation. All of this is due to one's own mind of craving (Taṇhā). Even if you cannot completely cut off this mind of craving, if you reduce it as much as possible, you will find absolute peace in your own region. Please give it a try.
