the way he phrased it "didn't talk to anyone but the kids" instead of "didn't talk to me" even tho there were only him and the kids in the car on the way back lol

Controversial take: brother-in-law would be the wife’s brother. Sometimes family dynamics kick in and as an in-law you stay out of those kind of conversations as there is no point in interjecting. We don’t know from context what his relationship is like with her family.

I'm with the wife. Op deferred to his wife about this, and didn't call BIL on it being both of them.

So you’re saying you’d rather yell at your spouse than stay silent and not insult or hurt their feelings?

OP is in the wrong for not saying something, if he has something against her then he should have said something.

I was raised on if you have nothing nice to say don’t say it at all. Silent treatment isn’t childish. I’m being nice.

The only time that you don’t back up your partner during something like this is if their decision risked the safety or wellbeing of the child in a way that you can’t reasonably ignore — and even then, you still step in if the other person is taking it too far or straying into other territories

there is also usually a calendar sent out by the coach with the dates and times for practice although it's not always strictly adhered to and sometimes parents have the opportunity to discuss practices and games times and dates. well this doesn't have a direct correlation to whether or not Opie should have backed up his partner or not (I think we're all in agreement there) it does probably mean there was a separate conversation that didn't come into play

Honestly, unless parents just don’t take their kids to games/practices sometimes sports can get really out of control at very young ages with the dedication to the team thing. He’s totally TA for not backing his wife

We were always really a big sports family. My dad insisted all the boys play hockey on baseball and when you’re paying hundreds and hundreds and thousands and thousands of dollars a year you don’t miss any practises lol

Immediate divorce! Literally, it’s really annoying for parents to have to revolve their lives around children’s sports games that they probably don’t really even care that much about. When they’re older and actually decide if they really even want to do it then then that’s the test to do then
