We Celebrate Weight Loss… But Why Don’t We Celebrate MAINTENANCE? 😂 First—this video is a joke. That's NOT my before picture. But it made me think about something. Fitness celebrates dramatic transformations all the time—and it should. Watching someone completely change their health is incredible. But what about the people who never let themselves go? I don't have a crazy 300-lb-to-ripped transformation. After leaving the Marines, my activity dropped and I gained some body fat. I was eating and drinking like I could still get away with the activity level I had in the military. Then I got serious about fitness and nutrition. I learned that as my lifestyle changed, my nutrition had to change too. Then I went vegan in 2012, and over the last 14 years I've continued learning, adjusting, training, and staying consistent. I've maintained an athletic physique throughout different seasons of my life—from everyday lifestyle shape, to getting shredded for summer, to extremely lean bodybuilding competition condition. And I'm 41 now with a much more sedentary career than I had in my 20s. That's my transformation: Not gaining 100 pounds and losing it. Not purposely getting out of shape for a before-and-after. It's maintaining the habits for YEARS. Transformations deserve their flowers. 💐 But so does longevity. Because getting in shape once is an accomplishment. Building a lifestyle that keeps you there for decades is one too. What do you think—does fitness culture overlook maintenance because dramatic before-and-afters are more exciting? 👇
