@fluscheeitaway: This is one of the most unhelpful things we’re doing to overweight people: pretending obesity is healthy. And trust me, I get it. I truly believe every single person is worthy of love, respect, kindness, and dignity at any shape or size. Those things should never be tied to a number on a scale. But obesity and health are not the same thing. I know because I was one of the people who thought I was healthy. At 5’1 and nearly 400 pounds, the only diagnosis I had was high blood pressure. I used that as proof that I was “healthy.” If I’m being honest, I was constantly looking for ways to justify why my weight was okay because I didn’t have a long list of health problems yet. But let’s be real for a second. There was nothing healthy about me being 400 pounds. Just because I hadn’t developed more health issues yet didn’t mean I was healthy. It meant I was lucky. I was headed down a path that dramatically increased my risk for chronic disease, heart disease, certain cancers, diabetes, joint problems, and so much more. Body positivity should mean knowing you’re worthy of love exactly as you are. It should not mean convincing people that obesity is healthy. The most loving thing I ever did for myself wasn’t accepting that I would always be 400 pounds. It was believing I deserved a healthier future and doing something about it. @eatshameless
