The M54 is very reliable. I’d say do the head gasket job, get the real ZHP seat, and you’ll be able to flip it for $8k

A m54 and m52 will give you the world of you show it love. Build that engine right and itll never give you issues. Im 215k miles on a turbo e46, stock internals. My brother is pushing 600 on stock internals. Tried and proven, great engines.
