BBC News Vietnamese: What is the most memorable experience from the Walk for Peace?
Venerable PaññÄkÄra Tue Nhan:
âI think the memories that remain with me most deeply are the people who were carrying immense suffering.
When they came to meet the Saá¹
gha, many of them broke down in tears.
That surprised us because we came from completely different backgrounds, cultures, and religions.
Yet once they sat down and shared their stories, we came to understand that, at that point in their lives, they were no longer thinking about living.
They were thinking about death.
They had lost the desire to continue.
Hearing those words made me reflect on how precious life truly is, and yet how much suffering a person must endure before believing that death is their only remaining choice.
After meeting the Saá¹
gha, many of them told us that we had become the final spark of hope they still held onto.
It was like a lamp whose oil was almost gone, with only the smallest flame still flickering.
All we could do was share the Buddhaâs teachings and encourage them to cultivate a mind that is steady, peaceful, and resilient, even while facing the storms of everyday life.
With open hearts, they received those teachings.
And little by little, they found the strength to stand up and keep moving forward.
Those moments, and the people we met along the way, are memories that I believe the Saá¹
gha and I will carry with us for the rest of our lives.â
