@sp4cetown: My silk painting “Calendar” from my recent exhibition at Nuun Gallery was made by painting with dyes on a long, sheer piece of silk organza. I worked on it section by section using a small embroidery frame I received through an embroidery program I participated in in India, the place where I first developed this practice. As I worked, I loved how beautiful the layers looked when I gathered each completed section and rolled it to one side of the frame to continue onto the next. I asked stylist Tashi if he would drape the painting on Masa as a dress without sewing or cutting it, since I still needed the piece to remain intact for the exhibition. During the process, he ended up drawing inspiration from traditional saree draping practices, which delightfully brought the work full circle. A special thank you to Huiben Shop for letting us pull pieces to complete the look, and to the talented Izaiah for photographing the vision. Working with my talented friends to bring new context to Calendar was such a special experience. I'm grateful to everyone involved and excited to share the final results. 🙏
