The land mass of the entire island of New Guinea is bigger than the combined land mass of Japan, Taiwan and New Zealand combined. New Guinea is not a tiny island. it has a land mass of over 780,000 km2, compared to Japan 377,000 km2, New Zealand 268,000 km2 & Taiwan 36,000 km2.. Even Papua New Guinea alone (eastern part of the island) has a land mass of 462,000 km2 which is larger than the land mass of the 3 countries individually..
