Eddie Alvarez, famously known as
Eddie Alvarez, famously known as "The Underground King," is a legendary American mixed martial artist who holds the unique distinction of being the only fighter in combat sports history to capture the undisputed Lightweight World Championship in both Bellator and the UFC. Born on January 11, 1984, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to a family of Puerto Rican and Irish descent, he grew up in the tough neighborhood of Kensington, where street brawls were a daily reality. He became an elite, All-American wrestler in high school and made his professional MMA debut shortly after graduating in 2003, quickly earning a reputation for his iron chin, heavy hands, and unbreakable warrior spirit. In 2009, Alvarez became the inaugural Bellator Lightweight Champion and went on to engage in a historic, blood-soaked trilogy against Michael Chandler, which is widely considered one of the greatest rivalries in MMA history. He signed with the UFC in 2014 and immediately fought his way through a brutal gauntlet against Gilbert Melendez and Anthony Pettis to earn a title shot. His ultimate career triumph came in July 2016, when he shocked the world by violently knocking out Rafael dos Anjos in the first round to capture the UFC Lightweight Championship. Though his reign was cut short later that year at UFC 205 in an iconic clash against Conor McGregor, Alvarez cemented his violent legacy by bouncing back to hand the previously undefeated Justin Gaethje his first career loss in a brutal, award-winning war. He later took his talents to the Asian promotion ONE Championship, finishing his incredible MMA career with a record of 30 wins and 8 losses, before successfully transitioning to bare-knuckle boxing in BKFC with a thrilling victory over Chad Mendes.
