I think that to be able to tell sp3 and so5 apart we need to look at their enneagram core. E3 extremely value acceptance and recognition, which is why you can often see them trying to meet people's expectations. E5, in contrary, does everything to keep their autonomy, they get easily overwhelmed by the world. Both of sp3 and so5 strive for autonomy, the biggest difference would be that sp3 wants their competence to be known to others, therefore be recognised methinks

I think SP3 and SO5 are similar in that both try to complete themselves by becoming something more defensible than simple being. Neither feels enough existing “as is.” Both require a substitute for naked existence. But the substitute they choose is polar opposite in direction. SP3 tries to become useful enough to secure life and justify its place through function, whereas SO5 tries to become elevated enough to justify its need for belonging. But SO5 still does this from within E5’s rejection of human normality, while E3 devastatingly craves it, and concretize itself within it.

Considering this person relates to both as cores, I'd say they should look into genuineky how ascetic vs materialistic they are. SP3's neurotic issues heavily involve physical matters, financial concerns whilst SO5 is the most 4F ever by archetype.
