The universe we observe is about 13.8 billion years old according to scientific measurement. So people ask: "If God created the universe 13.8 billion years ago, what was He doing before that?" Imagine a conscious character inside a video game. He discovers that his world was created in 2017. Then he asks: "If my creator made this world in 2017, what was he doing before 2017?" For that character, the game world is everything. The buildings, the trees, the sky, the land, and even the passage of time are all part of his reality. But the creator is not part of that reality. The creator is the one who made it. The character can only think using the rules of his own world. He cannot step outside it. He cannot observe the creator's reality. He does not know what exists beyond his world. He does not know whether the creator made other worlds before this one. He does not know whether the creator is working on countless other projects. His knowledge is limited to the system he lives in. Human beings are in a similar position. We live inside a universe made of matter, energy, space, and time. Everything we experience is measured by clocks. Because we live inside time, we naturally try to apply time to everything. That is why we ask: "What was God doing before the universe?" But the question assumes that God's existence must be measured by the same clock that measures our existence. Yet time itself is part of creation. Time is not the creator. Time is one of the things that was created. Modern physics has already shown that time is not the absolute thing many people imagine. According to Einstein's theory of relativity, time slows down as speed increases. The closer something gets to the speed of light, the more extreme this effect becomes. The ancient light of the universe has been traveling through space for about 13.8 billion years according to our measurements. Yet relativity shows that time behaves very differently for light than it does for us. But here is the interesting part. Even within creation, time is not absolute. It behaves differently under different conditions. If a created thing like time is already far more flexible than our everyday experience suggests, then why should the Creator of time be subject to it? Waiting requires time. A "before" and an "after" require time. Those concepts apply to things that exist within time. They do not apply to the One who created it. The real mistake is trying to measure the Creator using a measuring tool that belongs to the creation. A video game character cannot fully understand the reality of the developer because he exists inside the system that the developer created. Likewise, we exist inside a universe whose matter, space, and time are all part of a created system. This is why the Quran describes God as: "Al-Awwal wal-Akhir" — The First and The Last. He was there when time did not exist. And when time comes to an end, He will remain. Time begins. Time ends. But the Creator of time is not measured by it. . #LuqmanAlDarrawi #islamicvideos #islam #God #allah
