![Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Wednesday marked the 75th anniversary of the founding of Israel in an address to a joint meeting of Congress. The Israeli head of state, a largely symbolic figure, said he respects criticism of his country, but warned it should not veer into anti-Semitism. “I am not oblivious to criticism among friends, including some expressed by respected members of this House. I respect criticism, especially from friends, although one does not always have to accept it,” President Herzog said. “But criticism of Israel must not cross the line into negation of the state of Israel’s right to exist. Questioning the Jewish people’s right to self-determination is not legitimate diplomacy; it is anti-Semitism.” The speech comes one day after the House voted 412–9 to affirm that Israel “is not a racist or apartheid state,” a resolution that was introduced after Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) referred to the country as “a racist state.” Rep.
