@girlaboutmelb: This is one of my go to Korean BBQ spots in Melbourne 🔥 BBQ Code is a Korean BBQ restaurant located on Little Bourke Street in the heart of Melbourne CBD’s Chinatown. They only opened in February, but this is already their third location following their very popular Glen Waverley venue (founded in 2018) and Doncaster. They specialise in Australian MB9+ Wagyu beef, the highest grade of marbling known for its rich flavour, buttery texture and incredible tenderness. Korean born owner and chef Kim previously worked at in Korea at the W Hotel, Hyatt and has also cooked alongside Gordon Ramsay (flex!) One thing I really loved here is unlike a lot of Korean BBQ spots in Melbourne, they cook everything for you at the table. They rub the grill with beef fat throughout cooking and guide you through the order of meats for the best experience. It reminded me of being back in Korea because not many places here still do full service KBBQ. Their banchan (side dishes) are also all made in house including daily kimchi which leaned sweeter and less sour, plus perilla leaves, spring onion and onions. For sauces they serve:
• Ssamjang
• Salt, nori & rosemary blend for an extra umami hit
• Sweet BBQ soy sauce ⭐️ MB9+ Wagyu Short Rib (150g) - lean but still juicy
⭐️ MB9+ Wagyu Tenderloin (150g) - ridiculously tender
⭐️ MB9+ Wagyu Chuck Flap (150g) - juicy with beautiful fat throughout
⭐️ MB9+ Wagyu Galbi (250g) - marinated so it caramelises beautifully on the grill. They recommend saving this until last because of the sweetness. Tender doesn’t even feel like a strong enough word, it genuinely melts. Unexpectedly our favourite because I don’t normally even love galbi!
⭐️ Beef Tartare - loved the little pops of pear through this!
✔️ Korean Popcorn Chicken - with fried corn and rice cakes too. Apparently this is the Korean version of grabbing charcoal chicken or an HSP after school, proper comfort food!
✔️ Corn Cheese
✔️ Spicy Rice Cake - loaded with noodles, mandu, seaweed rolls and tteokbokki They also offer BBQ sets and Korean lunch set meals if you want something more affordable than the premium cuts. If you’ve ever wanted to try Korean BBQ but don’t want the pressure of cooking your own meat, this is the place. Easily some of the best meat I’ve had at Korean BBQ in Melbourne. A must try! ⭐️ Paid Invite
