Coming from a war-torn country, I always grew up with uncertainty. I think it was the food on the table. I think of it now like something invisible, like the dust that covers everything, It was everywhere. You could hear it in people’s conversations, in watching the news, even when there was nothing but silence. But for us, it was normal. When you grow up inside uncertainty, you don’t see it as something weird. It just becomes the background of childhood. You still go to school and study, you still laugh with friends, you still argue and fight with your siblings. Life continues. Now, when I watch the news about Iran and everything happening in that region again, I feel a strange familiarity. Not because the situations are the same, but because I recognize that feeling in the air. That intense tension that people who grew up in peaceful places sometimes don’t notice. The way uncertainty comes into everyday life. People outside often imagine war as explosions and headlines. But for the people living through it, it is something deeper than that. It’s the conversations at the dinner table, the parents speaking in lowered voices, or the feeling that tomorrow might change something, even if today looks ordinary. And yet, the most surprising thing is that people still live. Children still play in the streets, people still fall in love, and families still gather around food and laugh. Human life has a strange resilience. A resilience built on the collective understanding of how we treat each other and where we come from as a human species. It is the ability to reach beyond the skin that labels us, and truly seeing the heart that defines who we are. Maybe that is what I learned from growing up like that: uncertainty can surround you, but it does not have to define you. #war #usa #iran #worldwar
