@thenishildpatel: Someone asked me why I work the way I do, and the honest answer is that I’ve watched how fast it can all go away when an owner gets ahead of themselves. There was a sub on our projects whose work started slipping, so we offered him the same systems and tools we use to run jobs across state lines. He waved it off and said he knew what he was doing. He also stopped showing up to the sites, sent his guys instead, and the crew quietly lost faith that he cared. Two jobs slipped, the client let it go, and on the third one they called and said either he goes or we go. He lost millions in future work from one client. The advice was free and he didn’t want it. That’s the trap most owners walk into. They see other people running businesses that don’t need them and they want the same freedom, but they skip the part where you actually build it.
