steamOS is based on Linux, AMD has open source drivers and NVIDIA doesnt. Valve Takes blame for this issue but its really nvidias fault. also pricing is nuts but dont forget RAM, SSDs,GPUs and other components got more expensive. unreasonable pricing in weird times. controller parts is actually their fault.

the steam machine is not a ps5, they make profit with the box ,not with a subscription to let u play online

this is kinda what ive been telling my friends, if you have a pc then let me help you turn it into a steam machine, any of my friends that dont have a pc, might recommend it cause they dont want to go through the headache of building a pc, my friends are console gamers and dont wanna deal with mouse a keyboard too

Valve realized during the Steam Machine project that it just wasn't economically viable, especially in today's market. So they basically made a low-end Steam Machine that's already outdated for modern games and will be even more outdated for future ones, but kept producing it anyway so they could release the OS and let people do whatever they wanted with it. Valve doesn't really lose anything here. If people buy it, they're paying $1,000 for what is basically a $400 PC.
