A small correction calling synapsid "specialized lizard" is a bit miss leading in the sense they're separate branches from reptiles in general correct wording would be "specialized amniotes"

Fun fact: Synapsids didn’t evolve from reptiles. Instead they came from another group called basal amniotes. This group of animals were very closely related to reptiles though.

great video, thank you! important thing to note for peeps in the chat though... this doesn't make echidna, or any other animal, less evolved than us, they have continued evolving, in this ancient (to us) form, for exactly the same amount of time as us. They just went down a branch that we didn't take, retaining some traits from our ancestors that we either shed or developed differently to them.

Echidna are so freaking cute they’re very different than hedgehogs. Do not compare them to a porcupine people please don’t. The last one I ever saw was at the San Diego zoo so it’s been years. You’re just the cutest thing though.
