This Wallington Sri Lankan restaurant is facing a £90,000 fine and the revocation of its alcohol licence after Immigration Enforcement found four-out-of-five people working in it were being employed illegally. The Home Office says enforcement officers entered Taste of Ceylon in June 2025, when they found 80 per cent of the staff had no right to work in the UK, as they were on a visitation visa, immigration bail, or had no right to remain in the country whatsoever. Following the visit, a fine of £90,000 was handed to business owner Surendra Kandiah, which the Home Office says remains outstanding in full. Now the it says Sutton Council should review the premises licence on the grounds of Crime and Disorder prevention, which it says has been seriously undermined due to its failure to implement effective right-to-work checking procedures.
