How does God see Christians who have left church? The answer may surprise you. He is not rushing to condemn you. What He may see first is your wounded heart. “I love God, but I don’t want to go to church anymore.” “I was hurt by church.” “I feel like church has become more and more like a formality.” If this is you, please listen carefully. What God cares about has never been which chair you sit in. What God cares about is whether your heart is still seeking Him. You can sit in a church every Sunday while your heart is far from God. And you can also be in your room late at night, in front of your phone screen, in a quiet moment alone, and truly seek God from your heart. A location cannot define your faith. Your heart does. Here is another truth: Some people leave church not because they do not love God. It is because they love God so much that they can no longer bear the hurt done in the name of God. Being judged. Being controlled. Being asked to obey people, instead of obeying God. Your leaving may not be betrayal. Your leaving may actually be an awakening. But here is the trap. The enemy’s most cunning plan is not just to make you leave a church building. It is to use your wounds until you stop seeking God too. To make you go from “leaving church” to slowly “leaving God.” So today, God wants to ask you one question: Did you leave a place, or did you leave Him? The Lord Jesus said: “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:20 KJV It can be in a church. It can be at home. It can be online. It can be anywhere where you are truly seeking God. The form can change. But the line between you and God cannot be broken. Do not let the wounds of the past decide the path of your future. What you truly need is not only to return to a certain place. What you truly need is to return to God’s presence.
