Let's not forget that monogamy was only widely "normalized" because of the spread of organized religion and agriculture, polyamory is by no means a new idea.

completely misunderstanding normalization. to normalize is to destigmatize. it's to make these things NOT freaky. no one is being "given permission" they are being defended. no one decided polyamory because it's normalized. the only people who have tried to get into a poly relationship are those who wanted it. "oh wait, it's actually normalized to be poly. I was gonna be monogamous, but since polyamory is normalized, well..." do you realize how silly that is

Poly IS a marginalized group that lacks basic civil rights and protections in most countries, and there is zero evidence that being poly is more "risky". Poly is also way more common in queer relationships than straight ones, so seeing it as inherently "freaky" and "risky" will always impact queer people as a group negatively.
