Salvation Army in Plainwell is the best but it’s a lil expensive!! Your best bet in prolly the Grand Rapids goodwill bins if u wanna get a lot for cheap

i think the issue with thrifting in kalamazoo to the supply and demand of it. if you go into more rural areas outside of kalamazoo (paw paw, schoolcraft, plainwell) you’ll have better finds in clothing, furniture, and home goods. westnedge goodwill is the WORST.

I work at ThriftAbility and LOVE our cause. we support individuals with disabilities and mental illness with our parent organization MRC industries 💜 we are a local organization and our CEO helped build our fitting rooms, so if you want a good hands-on cause this is it ✨️we also keep prices pretty low becuase we want to be community accessible. I do a bunch of the pricing and its based on how much of something we have; tons of coffee mugs = all mugs 50 cents. 1 authentic Coach bag, 100 dollars. most items are less than 5 bucks

There’s a home refill shop that buys and sells all sorts of things from baby clothes to house ware’s, it’s located in Vicksburg, Michigan not far from Portage. It’s called Home Again. I am from Portage, I left for like a decade and lived in Minneapolis in New York City, back again since 2016… I will say that the thrift shopping around Kalamazoo area has gotten to be quite crappy and minimal. But if you go to smaller towns around us like papa, Lawton, Matawan, Michigan, Vicksburg and Schoolcraft… You can find some things that way! The Goodwill and Salvation Army will all differ in those smaller towns, but less picked over. Hopeful hint, Saint Joseph, grand Haven and South Haven all have those type of Goodwill, or thrift shops everywhere but they are better in the winter because they aren’t so busy.

I lived in Kalamazoo mostly my whole life, especially living in poverty, Kalamazoo had the best thrift, garage sales, estate sales, and second opportunity places. Sadly in recent years with gentrification, the overall state of the economy, transplants, and the rise of vintage, reselling and “curating” culture. It’s pretty much being erased. The estate sales where u could get all types of furniture for maximum 30$ is filled with resellers trying to make a quick buck. And every thrift store or garage sale selling at the price of eBay.

This is so funny to me because I lived in Chicago for 13 years and thought the thrifting sucked compared to kzoo. Surprised by the comments too. For clothes DEFINITELY 360! Also clothes mentor on Westnedge. The goodwill on West Main is better than portage, and Salvation Army in Portage is good too.
