you just can't have a floating pin. a floating pin isn't "off" it's "whatever the ambient fields allow" your gate voltage needs to be enough so Vgs>Vth or less than that for cutoff. you can't just disconnect it and hope it goes to zero

when connecting a mosfet, its gate should always be shorted with the source and source should be grounded again who directly connects voltage to any transistor without a biasing resistor?
