My ferritin is 7, and my doctor said the average range is 8–10. However, I’ve read online that women should have ferritin levels closer to 100.

As someone also in the uk WHY are the thresholds for the levels so much lower here? My ferritin is low and symptomatic but they don’t CONSIDER it to be bad because it isn’t on their scales. I hope that makes sense

My ferritin is 5, it has been as low as 1 and has never been above 20 after multiple blood tests over the past 20 years. I’ve tried EVERY iron medication, I cannot tolerate any of them due to them all giving me gastric issues. I have insanely heavy periods. They just will not give me an iron infusion because I lead a ‘normal’ life, even though I’m tired constantly! It’s just what I’ve always been used to since starting my periods so it’s my normal but I know it’s not right! It’s so hard to be listened to!

I’ve suffered with low iron/ferritin since being pregnant with my 5 year old. Went to the doctors again a couple of months ago because suffering from extreme tiredness again, and the female doctor suggested that I should get up 30 minutes earlier daily and do hiiit to get more energy 👍🏼

My ferritin was 26 so was technically normal. But the lab report even said on it that under NICE guidelines under 30 would indicate iron deficiency and to consider iron replacement. Didn’t even get a call from my GP, had to chase them on the online system and got a message from receptionist that stated “tests were normal can take over the counter supplements if I wanted”. Doctors literally couldn’t care less
