America’s allies in the region are watching closely and asking a simple question: If this is how the United States speaks about its strongest ally, what does that mean for us? Unlike Washington, the Gulf states and other regional partners don’t get to walk away from Iran. They live in the neighborhood. They bear the consequences of every strategic decision. If America is unwilling to fully ensure that Iran can never again threaten the region, and that’s an incredibly difficult task, why would others risk aligning themselves with us? Trust is built over decades and lost in moments. In the Middle East, loyalty isn’t just a virtue. It’s currency.
