I’ll go ahead and show my age here and probably get some negative feedback, but there is an entire generation of parents who have raised their children not to take accountability. One of the main ways is the arguing with their teachers over late turned in homework assignments or when disruptive in the classroom and parents felt like there should be no consequences, etc. This is what is happening to those children when they become adults. T hey still expect to be excused for all their behaviors no matter what.
