One day after the UN Vote on Partition, Palestinians militia attacked unarmed Jewish civilians. The Palestinians and Arab rejected the proposed partition and attacked the newly formed Jewish state. The intent was to genocide the Jews. The Arabs were so inept that they lost a war they should have won. As a result the Israelis expanded their territories and that expansion was ratified by treaties with the Arab combatants. There is no mention that the Jordanians occupied and annexed East Jerusalem and the West Bank and that Gaza was not given to the Palestinians but controlled by Egypt. I should also point out that 85-90% of Palestinians owned no land and that the majority of land in the Mandate, 70% in fact, was not owned but controlled by the British Mandate and prior to the Mandate, it was owned by the Ottoman Sultan.
