Many people have multiple pension pots they barely remember opening. Use pension tracing services and check old paperwork. Some people discover thousands of pounds they had completely forgotten about. 2️⃣ Claim Marriage Allowance If you’re married or in a civil partnership, and one partner earns below the Personal Allowance while the other is a basic-rate taxpayer, you may be able to transfer part of the allowance. That can reduce your tax bill by up to £252 per tax year. 3️⃣ Don’t waste your ISA allowance You can put up to £20,000 into ISAs each tax year. The allowance doesn’t roll over. If you only use £5,000 this year, you don’t get an extra £15,000 next year. Once it’s gone, it’s gone. 4️⃣ Check your bank account perks Many packaged and premium bank accounts include benefits such as travel insurance, mobile phone insurance and breakdown cover. A lot of people pay for these separately without realising they’re already included. Check what you’re actually getting for your monthly fee. 5️⃣ Look for a forgotten Child Trust Fund If you were born between September 2002 and January 2011, you may have a Child Trust Fund.
