I feel like the books kind of hints at Aleksander wanting the relationship because he wants to be what she needs. From when he was young he couldn’t do that for his mother and this is his way of coping with that trauma from his childhood. And I think what makes her different from anyone he’s been with before is that she wasn’t just a partner but an equal to him in mind and body

I’m afraid that the average romance reader will hate Lili😕 she is flawed but it made her so interesting. I enjoyed this book, but I agree we should have gotten more of Aleksandr's motivations.

That part about a friend dipping when entering a dubious relationship is so real and I immediately got the feeling you mean 😭. I wouldn't want to re-read that either although it sounds really interesting.

I had a similar experience when I read it in its first form. I kept thinking about it and pushed off re-reading it for a year. And now that I am reading the published version I have to say it's LESS upsetting than the OG.

I loved it! I’d love more recs for literary fiction style romances like this! I’m excited that it’s her debut novel because it’s really great, imo, so improvements in her writing with more work are very achievable. My only critique is that it reaches into the area purple prose a bit at times in a way that very very briefly took me out of the story. But it was easy to overlook overall!
