Kindergarten teacher here : friendship bracelets , individual notes to every friend , the best goody bags for the parties … anything your kiddo can bring to pass out to their classmates , that’s a big flex for them !!

If you’re able, VOLUNTEER at their school! You will meet their friends, have face time with their teachers, you’ll know what’s happening at the school. You’ll see your kids at school and see how they are interacting too. (Plus teachers need HELP!)

As a kinder teacher, the big thing is backpacks! Let them get the fun funky backpacks as long as they are functional! They LOVE sharing their interests and it helps them find friends quickly because they can share what they like 😁

At some point during the year there will be a pajama day. You may or may not have a lot of notice. This becomes tricky if not a mini scramble for many parents. (For example, their nightly pajamas may be too hot, too tight, or the material too thin to be comfortable for school)

My son graduates kindergarten today. He had a target Minecraft backpack, popsocket pencil case, Minecraft lunch box (3 of them) then 1/2 way thru the year switched to a red pottery barn backpack with a bunch of charms from Disney world (Grogu, dog, light up stars, etc) wore Nike, on clouds, crocs. Nike socks, Gap, Janie and Jack, vineyard vines, Nike, Abercrombie.

I just bought 10 Hanna Andersson dresses for my new kindergartener with the hope that she will look cute and tidy every day and it will help endear her to her teachers. I was in a fugue state

A few months into my kindergartener’s year he would want to wear nothing except Nike and refused his paw patrol or spidey stuff. 😭 My baby grew up so fast. Which parent started this?! 🤣

Teaching your child boundaries is another big one. No means no and stop means step. A lot of kids will not be around or play with the kids who don’t understand personal boundaries … like you can’t just hug everyone , you have to ask your friend if they’d like a hug

This is so true, my daughter just finished kindergarten and whenever I’d ask “did anyone like your outfit?” She would tell me “nobody cares about anyone’s clothes in kindergarten” 🤣😅

Make sure you get a nice pair of school appropriate pajamas and slippers for pj day. Kindergarten had so many of those days and I scrambled at first bc all of her jammies were footy jammies
