My parents had a new home built in 2001 with an in ground pool and hot tub for $135k. In today’s dollars that should be roughly double at $268k. Please show me the brand new 3/2/2 2300sq ft with a pool that are $268k in the Tampa Bay Area. I’ll wait.

I bought a leather couch from IKEA back in 2019 for $850. They still sell the SAME couch and last time I checked it was $1400. I wanted to replace it due to wear and tear from having dogs but never mind! My partner and I make more money than our families ever had and we feel like we can’t get ahead.

I've been saying this for sooooooo long. Ppl always argue to me inflation is inflation but it's just wrong. And you're already showing 2-4 times higher price increases than government advertised inflation... I can only imagine this gap gets worse the longer back you go.

my boomer/gen x cusp parents bought their house in 1986, it was 3 bed 3 bath $135k, about 45 minutes outside of Philly. they added an addition so it's 4bed 3.5 bath, 2.5 car garage, in ground pool, 2800 sqft, .5 acre lot, nice neighborhood. zillow estimates it at $800k 🫠

The inflation rate is cherry picked to manually keep that number as low as possible. This is a true reflection
