This statue, the Winged Victory of Samothrace, was carved around 190 BC to celebrate a naval victory and stands on the prow of a warship. Even though her head and arms were lost centuries ago, she’s considered one of the greatest masterpieces of ancient Greek art. The company Nike later took its name from this goddess because victory was at the heart of the brand.
