@michaeltothemax: One of the things that really surprises people after a breakup is how intelligent people can become completely obsessed with someone who is no longer in their life. I’ve had people say to me, “Michael, I don’t understand what’s wrong with me. I’m successful. I have a good career. I’m educated. I’m normally rational. Why can’t I stop thinking about this person?” The answer is simple. Because this was never an intelligence problem. In fact, some of the most obsessive thinking I see after breakups comes from highly intelligent people. Why? Because smart people are problem solvers. When something breaks, they fix it. When something doesn’t make sense, they figure it out. When there’s a challenge, they work harder. That approach works wonderfully in business. It works in school. It works in most areas of life. But relationships don’t always operate according to those rules. Sometimes a relationship ends and there isn’t a solution. Sometimes there isn’t an answer that suddenly makes everything make sense. Sometimes there isn’t a conversation that’s going to give you the closure you’re looking for. And that’s where people get stuck. Psychologist Susan Nolen-Hoeksema spent years researching rumination and found that people often become trapped in repetitive cycles of thinking when they’re trying to make sense of emotional pain. The mind keeps returning to the same questions. What happened? What did I do wrong? What are they thinking? Do they miss me? Will they come back? The brain treats these questions like unfinished business. And the smarter you are, the more convinced you become that if you just think about it a little longer, you’ll finally figure it out. But here’s the problem. You’re not solving it. You’re feeding it. There’s another concept in psychology called the Zeigarnik Effect. Research by Bluma Zeigarnik found that unfinished experiences tend to occupy more mental space than completed ones. In other words, your brain hates open loops. A breakup creates one of the biggest open loops a person can experience. Especially if there was no real closure. Especially if there were mixed signals. Especially if they said they loved you and then walked away. Your brain keeps circling back because it believes the answer will finally bring relief. But what most people eventually discover is that the obsession was never really about the answer. It was about trying to escape the uncertainty. The anxious mind believes certainty creates peace. Healing teaches you that peace often comes before certainty. One of the hardest lessons you’ll ever learn is that understanding everything isn’t required to move forward. You don’t need every question answered. You don’t need your ex to explain themselves. You don’t need a final conversation. You don’t need a confession. You need acceptance. And if you’re finding yourself trapped in this cycle of overthinking, obsessing, replaying conversations, and trying to solve a relationship that no longer exists, that’s exactly why I created resources like my Breakthrough Bundle, my Limerence Bundle, and my new From Anxious to Anchored program. Because sometimes the problem isn’t that you need more information. Sometimes you need a roadmap that helps you stop feeding the obsession and start rebuilding your life. Because the truth is, some people spend years trying to solve a relationship that ended in a matter of days. And every day they spend trying to solve it is another day they’re not building their future. If this is you, stop judging yourself. You’re not crazy. You’re not weak. You’re not obsessed because you’re unintelligent. You’re obsessed because you’ve applied a problem-solving mind to a problem that cannot be solved through analysis alone. At some point, healing requires a different skill. Not figuring it out. Letting it go. And that’s often where real freedom begins. Remember, the higher you climb, the better the view. Let me encourage you to climb higher, because YOU deserve to be happy. #healing #selfworth #growth

THIS is exactly what my therapist advised me. She said you are analytical, logical, you solve problems for a living, you have your path clearly laid out, you are emotionally intelligent and acutely aware of everything. There is no reasonable explanation for what happened because he is not you. I feel more defeated knowing I failed myself by getting bamboozled and for this reason I cannot see myself entertaining another courtship.

it's because intelligent people often seek answers, but when someone is discarded buy someone they love and who claimed to love them. and then that person gets some sick pleasure out of your broken heart by rubbing what they did in your face. we try to find the answer on how it could of possibly happened. non of it makes sense. and this is why we get stuck on a person. because no answer will be good enough except the truth from their mouth. and they will likely never tell you the truth.

I honestly don’t know why my algorithm blessed me with exactly this perfect video. It was exactly what I needed for such a long time, and somehow, I finally found the answer I was looking for. Thank you, sir. You’ve said everything that needed to be said. It was so well-spoken, well-articulated, and especially resonated with analytical people like me.

Ouch!!! This is exactly me. It’s been 16 months and no contact and I can’t file because I ruminate and believe he will eventually come back. Having no conversation about it in the end and just go from talking to complete shut out is devastating. 💔💔💔

This is how/why smart people stay in bad relationships too long. They try to figure it out instead of just letting it be.

I don't think I choose to think about my ex-wife we were married for 10 years suddenly decided a divorce and we did a lot of traveling went to a lot of places nearby where we both live and where we live when we got married we were everywhere I go places and I think about her what she said how she was dressed and 3 years later I'm still not totally read of her memory I haven't dated I kind of feel like I'm kind of kind of messed up in a way I don't want to be alone I just feel like I'm stuck this way for a while honestly still miss my ex-wife I don't think people were designed to go through multiple divorces in life my divorce was awful I found her with another man in my bed and then another one after we were divorced I guess all of that is not supposed to be a big deal but to me it was a question everything I don't trust anything I go to work I still work hard and I do the best I can to move on
