feedback on people's bodies really bum me out. i've been in rooms where clients picking actors or models for their campaigns, saying stuff like "oh she has a wide smile, oh he has a large nose, she looks older, he looks wider" etc. like wtf, we're not picking costumes

As a brand owner who works with models constantly, I genuinely try to do better every time. ❤️On set, we’re all part of the same team. If a model isn’t comfortable with a design, I always try to understand why, because there’s a good chance my customers may have the same concern. In many ways, my models are my first focus group and my first clients.

the worst part is I was so young and it was my first job so I truly didn't recognize when things were unprofessional or when I was being taken advantage of because it was "industry standard". I thought I was so grown up living all on my own in a big city meanwhile my agency was in control of my self image and emotional wellbeing a lot of the time. My husband modeled too and we both agree our kids will NOT be allowed to model lol

Wow this sounds like a horrible time 😭 I was obsessed with ANTM and the idea of wearing beautiful clothes seemed so glamorous I’m glad you are out of that environment! Also It’s so crazy I just left a job were everyone asked if my name was pronounced like yours! It’s so cool how it looks so similar but said so different 😂

The trick is to immediately make them start modeling for hours at a time. They’ll hate it and mission accomplished. Modeling isn’t just walking and being pretty and I wish kids knew that. You need to follow highly specific instructions from photographers who don’t know what they want.
