@rosiehharte: Queen Victoria was not the girl boss feminist that some people like to make her out to be 😬 Just because she was a woman and running the country, doesn’t mean that she thought it was a woman’s job… or that women should have any rights at all… #History #queenvictoria #victorianhistory #historyfacts

Don't forget the poor lady in waiting who died in disgrace after Victoria dismissed and publically shamed her for supposedly falling pregnant....when in reality she was dying of a stomach tumor.

Don’t get me wrong: I am fascinated with the Victorian times, but Queen Victoria was simply a very privileged woman who never had to suffer what her the majority of her population did, especially women. I feel like she couldn’t have a clear understanding of what feminists et suffragettes were standing for

Regarding Queen Victoria, I think it’s unfair to judge her through a modern lens. Her life was, in many ways, the embodiment of both privilege and alienation—a gilded prison. Even if she personally enjoyed many of the gender norms of her time, her life exposed a contradiction at the heart of them. A society that claimed women were naturally subordinate was simultaneously ruled by the most powerful woman on Earth. In that sense, her reign challenged Victorian assumptions about gender, whether she intended it to or not.

i put queen victoria in the same category as margaret thatcher. neither woman deserves to be whittled down to their gender, but both truly deserve to be in the worst parts of whatever version of the underworld exists. greed is a horrible thing.

She was Queen because she had to be. She didn’t fight for the throne. It was thrust upon her, and she accepted it…

Interesting how there's a statue of Queen Victoria in one of the quads at Royal Holloway University that's famously a women's college opened in 1880s. When she personally attended the opening, she was apparently so impressed that she granted the college the right to use the word "Royal", which is why it became Royal Holloway College.

supporting feminism meant other women could have the choices and power she had only because she was a monarch. she wanted the best only for herself.

I do think it's interesting cause it's not like she was really all that into motherhood either which by victorian standards was a woman's most important job.
