@ivyoutwest: I’ll never understand the knee-jerk, snarky reaction so many women have when they see a happily married woman: “What are you going to do when he leaves you?” No one asks my husband “What if she leaves you?” No one tells him to keep one foot out the door or have a backup nanny even though the vast majority of divorces are initiated by women. Men are actually happy for him, hope to see his family thrive and believe it can. Degrees, investments and savings aside- if I had to, I could also go back to work tomorrow. Would it be fun or easy? No way. But pretending I would be destitute and helpless in the rain somewhere is silly. My children only get one childhood and I only get one chance to build a life with my husband. If I wanted a life with no vulnerability where the world revolved around myself and my money, I wouldn’t have chosen marriage or motherhood.
