@fulltime.freebirds: Exciting news! We recently bought 10 acres of lakefront property in the Last Frontier. And it cost us less than the price of a new vehicle! Our plan is to build a fully self-sufficient cabin by hand: no contractors, no building restrictions, no HOA, and best of all NO DEBT. We’re looking forward to a future built on our terms- rooted in nature, real food, and sustainable living. Seeing the land in person for the first time was a vulnerable mix of excitement and fear. Our first steps on the property were alongside fresh grizzly tracks, a moose, and an overwhelming list of things to figure out. It wasn’t until we spent a few days of hard work with a chainsaw, some shovels, and bear spray that our nerves started to fade, the vision began to feel possible, and the clearing for the cabin began to take shape. This is a huge undertaking and our experience is minimal. We know it will take time, effort, and more than a few mistakes, but that’s the point!!
