Fun fact: the name 'soccer' actually originated in Oxford, from association football (the Oxford students would add -er to their shortened words). The name Association Football was used to distinguish it from Rugby Football (rugby, also known as rugger, following the -er slang convention, also carries the ball). Eventually it just became Football and Rugby. The name soccer was kept in places where football was used for other games like gridiron (American/Canadian) football and Australian rules football.

I think that maybe any of the sports that are called/considered “football” are played with a ball by large opposing teams running on a field/pitch that play on foot regardless of how often the ball is kicked. I don’t think that would include any sport with a bat, club, racket, or other such implements. Also, basketball has some aspects in common with the various football games, but is played on a court.
