I have a hate-love relationship with those accounts. I follow them because some of the information is really helpful, plus I genuinely don’t know where to get more information about college. I’m first a first generation student that migrated from Mexico. The only family that knows about it is a cousin that lives far and barely talk with me. Those videos increase my stress and guilt as if my only option for college are ivy’s schools. I’m currently a freshman in high school and I feel so far behind thanks to those videos; however some of the information they provide are the few ways I can learn about getting a better education after high school.

I’ve seen over achieving stats and regular stats get into the same schools. The fear mongering is crazy. Unless you are trying to get into an Ivy, please simply Do what brings you joy and don’t slack off with your grades or extracurricular activities. You don’t need top awards or to be the President of every club. Stop focusing on trying to get into the top schools for validation especially if you have no solid plan for it. Apply to many schools and simply go to a college that’s the best fit for you and where the scholarships reside!!! That is the smartest move.

i genuinely got rejected from every single school that i heavily followed online advice for 💀 then for the appreciations i did without listening to advice i did extremely well on, the formula really does not work for everyone

W should always strive to be as helpful as possible while trying to alleviate anxiety, not add to it. But it doesn’t always come off that way.

One of those dudes i remember posted some reel that was like “marching band is a waste of time if you want to go to an Ivy League!! its too big a time commitment so quit it!” and holy shit dude worst advice of all time? why are we just encouraging people to quit their passions. And for reference i got into two Ivy leagues while having zero leadership roles in and spending most of my time doing marching band. So he’s just fucking wrong too.
