@deb4oshawa: Replying to @cupcakegoodness.store Small businesses are telling us they're struggling, and we need to listen. When a business closes, it isn't just a vacant storefront. It's someone's dream, someone's livelihood, and years of hard work. The good news? We don't have to accept this as inevitable. St. Thomas has taken a collaborative approach through its "Social Issues Are Business Issues" initiative, bringing together business leaders, police, local government, housing providers, healthcare, and community agencies to tackle these challenges together instead of in silos. Oshawa has the people, organizations, and expertise to do the same. We need leadership that brings everyone to the same table. Joanna :
Have to be honest the last place I chose to go shop is downtown. It's not the nicest area and our reps don't seem to care or have a solution. I can't take my kids down there on a normal night.

I hate trying to park in downtown Oshawa. I avoid those businesses because of parking. I see many that I would go to much more often, if there was a lot to park in.

SUPREME GENES ENTERTAINMENT :
I've lived downtown Oshawa since the late 80s. Name one business downtown other than the rainbow restaurant and Wilson s furniture and the singer store that has survived there over the long haul ? Downtown Oshawa died when they moved the transit bus junction point from downtown on bond st. to the Oshawa Centre in the late 80s

I am downtown Oshawa, I can see improvements for the past 6 years I've been here, but not enough yet , and store fronts are so expensive, I have a small business from home and try as much as I can to support other small businesses here . There are great businesses in Oshawa

Our mayor does nothing to help our downtown. It’s disgraceful!

Downtown Oshawa has always been a struggle. I worked at the ministry of finance downtown 28 years ago and it was dying back then. There is nothing downtown to keep it going. All the restaurants and stores i used to know are gone, the good clubs and bars are gone. Oshawa needs to deal with their homelessness and drug issues. Driving through downtown Oshawa is scary now, memorial park is full of people that need help. Until they deal with that issue, no one is going to want to go downtown.

my brother had to close his restaurant at 70 bond. With the clinic an other large facilities shutting down in the downtown core, it doesnt have the same traffic. Then add the fact its where majority of homeless an addicts reside, its not as inviting a place as it could be.

Oh I feel this deeply. We’ve been in our spot for over 5 years now. It is getting harder and harder to survive. Lately, there are more stores closing than opening. I am not sure we can take anymore hits.

@Cupcake Goodness: I still believe in Downtown Oshawa. I’m just glad that I had another option to keep my business going. I wish the BIA would stll b apart of the core.

I lived in Oshawa for 13 or 14 years now, and I do not go downtown for nothing anymore. I used to have to take the GO bus over to Bowmanville for work, that was years ago. I just don’t feel like having any reason to go down there personally for myself.

I say this to my husband all the time! I love downtown Oshawa and I'm currently on mat leave. It would be so nice to take a stroll down there during the day with my baby and check out all our local shops, but it doesn't feel safe enough to do it.
