Stayed in an abusive marriage for years for this very reason! It was also used as a weapon for abuse; she said, "Walk out the door, and you will never see the kids again" on a few occasions. In hindsight, it would never have happened, but when trapped with an abusive woman, you don't see things clearly. 😢
