For 23 days straight, Albanians have flooded the streets, demanding that billionaires leave their country (and flamingos’ home) alone. On Sunday, protesters wrecked a construction site in Kakome Bay, infuriated with the Albanian government supporting a proposed luxury resort development by Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump, and Gulf investors. The project would transform Albania’s uninhabited Sazan Island and part of the nearby coastline into luxury hotels, villas, apartments, and a marina. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has faced calls to resign over backing luxury projects. Private security guards have violently cracked down on protesters. The demonstrators, dubbed as part of the “Flamingo Revolution,” (the area is a habitat for the birds) argue they are protesting billionaires and government corruption, and protecting a nature conservation zone. #albania #protest #trump #news #politics
