How much has your homeowners insurance gone up? Will be interesting to see if they drop you on your anniversary renewal date as well

curious about what kind of flooring you are looking at for that first floor/basement foundation concrete

Yikes! I had a completely different experience with our insurance. We bought a brand new house. Closed Friday, had a washer and dryer delivered Saturday. The installers didn’t attach the drain hose and started the washer. We all left the house. Came home, and found water on the first floor, went upstairs and saw it was the washer. The installers paid our deductible to the mitigation company, which covered that mostly. The builder accepted what the insurance company paid.

As an owner of a contracting company the fact that you understand the process is amazing. For us…that is the longest part of the process..helping people understand the process 🤪.

It’s such a strange process. Here in Australia 90% of the time the insurance company is paying the contractor directly. Saves so much back and forth with you in the middle.

We have a basement sort of similar! Do you put a topper on the upper part of the white part ? Like shelves all the way around ?

How old was your water heater. Did you ever consider water on demand?

So it sounds to me like you’re out of pocket. Is that the case?

Dealing with anything like this is so frustrating because everyone you tell is like “oh but insurance is going to cover it 😤

The longest process is the insurance company for sure. you really do need to sent emails every 2 days. It was very frustrating. I took the buy out so I could get what I wanted and being in control of how much was spent on what. We also got a buyout for our contents and didn’t replace most. We realized what we could live without during the wait time

I had a very similar experience when a pipe burst in my kitchen ceiling. After 9 months of constant phone calls it was repaired. The following renewal doubled my home insurance and I switched companies.

This happened to me in my condo. I feel the waiting game to my core!!!! Insurance takes their time and wants to not give the money you need. Yes! With the persistent!!

We had a similar situation in 2022/2023. Ours was a burst pipe behind the wall where our water heater was. I discovered the leak in Nov 2022 and we finally had all the repairs done in Feb 2023. The longest part was the same as yours. Insurance and contractor agreeing to the price. Once they agreed, the contractor got started on the work within a day. Glad you're finally at the point where the work will be done! 🩷

it's great that you now have a starting point!! yay!! My issue w/ insurance is that their prices don't keep up w/ prices of materials. prices went up almost 2 & a half times during covid & very little has gone down since then. people also don't realize that if they've had house insurance for awhile that they need to update their insurance amount to cover rising prices of fixing or rebuilding. We learned that when our brother & sil lost their house during a hurricane.
