@apnews: Rip currents aren't always easy to detect. Sometimes they're connected to stormy weather but other times they can occur during sunny days even in calm-looking waters. Here's how to spot them and what to do if you're caught in one.
I think I’ve maybe seen one example where it was clear where the rip current was. This is not one of these examples.

I was caught in a rip current once and the was no way not to panic it was like a vacuum I was literally sucked out what stopped me from getting taken out to sea was I actually hit the sandbar and that’s what stopped me very scary

I’d ride a rip current out into the ocean for fun.. this is the first time the advice is right. Don’t fight, don’t panic, just let it pull you out and calmly swim back.

knowing your strengths is the ultimate safety tool in these kinds of situations and avoid them. but being told to lay back and let the ocean take you is actually wild

I was body surfing with my cousin and we were getting pulled into the rip current close and close but we were pretty far from the rip current so we just left for the day

let it pull you out? huh? why not just tell them to swim parallel to the beach until it stops pulling you out.

When I got caught in one, let it pull me out then swam parallel, that’s what we were taught.
