Commonhold is a form of property ownership in England and Wales introduced in 2002 as a fairer alternative to the traditional leasehold system. It allows you to own a flat (or an individual unit in a shared development) outright and indefinitely as a freehold, while collectively sharing ownership and management of the building's communal areas with your neighbours.

We never truly own the land anyway even if it is freehold . I know the government has been trying to chance the historical land law a few years ago .

Freehold = you own house + land forever. Leasehold = you own a long-term right to a flat, landlord above you. Commonhold = you OWN flat outright + jointly run the building.. hope that helps. Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Act 2002
