Her generation's goal was to raise convenient children. Ours is to raise capable, emotionally stable, happy adults.

I LOVE my boomer mother in law. She raised THREE amazing men. All of them are great husbands and fathers. Never have to “ask” them for help. They run the households as much as we do. We don’t carry all the mental load. They’re compassionate and just straight up kind people. You know what she did to get there? She went no contact with her authoritarian parents when she turned 19 and raised her kids with love and compassion. Don’t tell me it’s just how things were back then cus my mother in law shows otherwise

If every kid is behind academically, it’s a system. Look at the school system that has been defunded and pushed to prioritize test scores over anything else.

OMG everyone stop bullying millenials already. Being stuck between boomers and young boomers is so annoying

They won't listen or acknowledge their faults...so I usually hit them with the : " Our generation is completely messed up, right? And who raised us? Exactly..."

First she said "millenials who are raising young children" only to continue with describing these kids as "falling off academically, falling behind in practical life skills". Is she expecting five year olds to do taxes? Are the toddlers not referencing their sources correctly? Are the pre-schoolers not reading Goethe and Tolstoy? Is she worried about 3 year olds who can't cook?

I’m sorry but the kids of millennials arent even going to University yet? I’m a millennial parent and my girl hasn’t even turned 2 yet 🥲 So even IF her numbers were true, they’re not caused by this generation
Breaking generational cycles, actually being there for my child emotionally & physically, holding their boundaries.

Elder millennial here. My son turns 18 tomorrow. He’s the shit. He’s wicked smart, fiercely empathetic, funny, cooks dinner, does a reasonable amount of domestic stuff without being asked… he recently asked for a “refresher course” of CBT with the therapist he saw many years ago because he felt he needed a little help managing stress… and we watch Dropout, play board games and Tamodachi life together. We get him for one more year (his senior year) then he’s off to college. I shear feel bittersweet about it.

They literally didn't parent. They passed us off to our grandparents, or just left us to watch cartoons all day.
We were traumatised zombies, terrified of getting hit with spoons or slippers.
Gen X and Millennial parents ACTUALLY parent. An we have less support, as our parents don't grandparent either!

As a EAC who focuses on child development, I do have questions on literacy rates and anxiety. From what I am seeing is that this is largely due to unchecked technology use. Which the studies are just now coming out about this and many are adapting and considering in their parenting. With all of that being said, we will admit that mistakes were made. We will apologize and acknowledge our faults. That is the difference in millenials and boomers. *with the caveat that were talking about generational trends, but may not apply to all parents.

I mean, my kid does great academically, is responsible and independent, works hard to be a good person and GETS TO BE A KID. I was responsible for toddlers when I was a teenager, my child will not be.
